+++ ARTSIST TALKS, FILMS CURATED BY MIRE, INSTALLATIONS, DJ BLINDSPOT & DJ MAKIZ’ART, STANDS +++
Now in it’s 7th year the festival CABLE# in Nantes, has become the largest event of it’s kind in west France. An eclectic offering of concerts, performances, film screenings, diffusions and installations where ’experimentation’ is considered a way of working, as apposed to the name of a style of music.
While experimentation is indeed at the center of all the propositions, we relish in inviting artists who confuse the idea of style and trend, and who communicate truly unique visions of what is possible with sound, image, text and performance.
From the strange and intruiging A.TYPIST (amplified typewriters from Seoul), FRANCISCO MEIRINO’s crashing and dying machines, SUBUTEX SOCIAL CLUB (quartet of local shit stirrers), HORACIO POLLARD’s mashup of tribal industrial no wave & GORDON ASHWORTH’s unique low-fi drone …
to … lecture and text based OLIVIA ROSENTHAL (reading), ERELL LATIMIER (tapes, recordings, text).
Modern day electro-acoustic masters in their prime (OLIVIA BLOCK & JASON LESCALLEET), field recordings from the amazon (THOMAS TILLY), noise meets image with HONG CHULKI & LEE HANGJUN & BADCOLOR, a new wave of super interesting and dynamic borderline jazz outsiders (DIE HOCHSTAPLER &JULIEN DESPREZ), free rock spazz, screamo bands SPOO & STAER, and legends from the underground GUY SHERWIN, LÊ QUAN NINH & RHODRI DAVIES playing ELIANE RADIGUE. Plus a host of films curated by MIRE (Nantes based experimental cinema association) and GUY SHERWIN including films by Stephan GUÉNEAU, Oskar FISCHINGER, Peter KUBELKA, Jun’ichi OKUYAMA & Lis RHODES.
Serious yet unpretentious, CABLE# is as eclectic in it’s choice of artists as in it’s choice of venues. Still an unfunded, DIY and grassroots organization the venues range from the more official Espace Cosmopolis & the Library Hermeland, the alternative squat scene of the Blockhaus DY.10 and Ateliers de Bitche, to the odd and unlikely Restaurant social Pierre Landais (a soup kitchen), the Bateau Lavoir (a small boat), Lunette etc (an optician), and Cinéma Le Bretagne (an ancient cinema).

ENSEMBLE CERBERE invites LÊ QUAN NINH (fr / aus)
This formation was born from the meeting of three percussionists from Nantes : Toma Gouband, Will Guthrie and Alexis Degrenier. Composers, players, improvisers, performers, their project blurs the line between composition and improvisation. For its first concert, the Ensemble invites Le Quan Ninh to join the project and increase the offered possibilities by a unique percussive Instrumentation.
OLIVIA ROSSENTHAL (fr)
Olivia Rosenthal, writer, has published ten novels with the Editions Portraits two of which marked "We’re not here to disappear" (Price Wepler-Fondation La Poste 2007) and "What do reindeer after Christmas?" (Price Alexander Vialatte and prices Book Inter 2011). Her interest in the share of orality that contains any writing led her to propose performances in collaboration with filmmakers, writers, directors, artists and choreographers.
A. TYPIST (S.Korea)
Performance from Hankil RYU (musician), Lo WIE (director and videographer) and Taeyong KIM (writer) from the fascinating scene of Seoul. Could the act of writing be another way to make music? Equiped with amplified typewriters, this eclectic trio plays with the borders between literature, music and performance.
GUY SHERWIN & LYNN LOO (gb/spr)
Since the 70s Guy Sherwin developed a unique and weird language with 16mm film or sound. Influenced by the radical work of the London Film-Makers Co-operative, his work uses light, motion and sound as the fundamental elements of cinema. His collaboration with artist Lynn Loo, from Singapore, is recognized as a high-end work in the world of experimental cinema. The duo will play their scores "Man with Mirror", "Mobius Loops" & "Vowels and Consonants."

GORDON ASHWORTH (usa)
American musician based in Portland , he is also known as ’Concern’, ’Oscillating Innards’ and ’CAEN’, or as a member of the Black Metal band Knelt Rote. He recorded many projects for PAN and RRR. He works from recordings of traditional music, abrupt and hypnotic rhythms, hidden melodies in the spectrum and offers a certain intimacy contrasting with the chaos of the Outside fluctuating between agoraphobia and social life.
"Spoo !A scream?A insult? A sigh ?A small spoon without hate?No idea about the trio’s name! But no hesitation about the tackled speech : we are here in presence of a form of contemporary free rooted in the blues and the tradition but able to some resolutely modern projections. Free jazz at it’s highest extremes …
SUBUTEX SOCIAL CLUB (fr)
Nantes based shit stirrers, no wave no fun at all at all. Debut LP rectly released on set/30’ records, home of Nantes’s finest …
ERELL LATIMIER (fr)
Questioning the speech as narrative or story is at the heart of her creations and live performances since fifteen years. From an organic device consisted of the accumulation of dictaphones, tape and digital recorders, she rewrites a language and transcends the essence of the manipulated word in an aesthetic both acute and noisy.
RHODRI DAVIES plays Eliane Radigue (gb/fr)

Born in 1975, Francisco Meirino is active since 1994 (under the pseudonym Phroq until 2009). His music explores the tension between the programmable hardware and its potential failure, the end of life of sound systems, background magnetic fields noises. His tools are mainly the computer, the tape recorders, the magnetic field sensors, piezo and various electro-acoustic devices. He has collaborated with many artists in studio or on stage, like Dave Phillips, Scott Arford, Michael Gendreau, Randy HY Yau, Lasse Marhaug, ILIOS, Mike Shiflet.
JASON LESCALLEET (usa)
Second time in Nantes for the great Lescalleet. His work explores a sound space on the edge of the noise, real music, or pure electronics through a genuine woven wire between artifacts of everyday life to the amplified silences and transformations in real time. To do this, he does not hesitate to turn his machines into a disguised instrumentarium with microphones, amplifiers, speakers , tape decks and hijacked items.. Jason Lescalleet renewed his proposal at each performance , an omen of excellence for his coming to the festival

HONG CHULKI & LEE HANGJUN (cor)
The meeting between filmmaker Lee Hangjun and noise musician Hong Chulki. DIY electronics ,crackle of images and sounds. A noise atmosphere in the purest sense of the term. Yet ,another project of the very productive and lively scene of Seoul.

HORACIO POLLARD (gb)
Anglo-Argentinian, the "noise-eccentric" HORACIO POLLARD is active on the experimental scene since 2002. Member of CLIFFORD TORUS and FULLY BLOWN DENTAL REFORM his music mixes distortions, like heavy riffs, fierce noise-drenched rhymes and tribal industrial funk.
First time in Nantes for STAER, the "new" Norwegian power trio with an enormous sound and energy, in the continuity of the Norwegian hero genre (Ultralyd, Noxagt, MoHa ..). It’s simple, anyone who saw them recently, describe it like the big slap of the moment. Maximum distortion, acute and piercing torsion to perfection, highly energetic rhythmic explosions / energy, zapping hard-core , confusing automation , an extremely heavy, cold and frosty noise … From original punk-rock-jazz-noise , brutal and progressive both in time, rhythmic and terrifying screaming guitars … Yes!
JULIEN DESPREZ (fr)
Young free jazz guitarist , improvised music, contemporary music and more . Coming out of the collective COAX, Julien Desprez plays among others in DDJ, Irene, Raising Benzine. For Cable # , he is to offer us his new solo project: ACAPULCO.
